The Quest for 10-100 Baggers; Peking Univ. Talk

I very much enjoyed my first ever talk to students in China. Peking University's Guanghua School of Management is the best of the best. Prof, Jiang Guohua's Value Investing Course is the first such course ever offered in China.  This talk was sponsored by Himalaya Capital.

Enjoy!

The best things in life are free. A well-wisher (and die-hard fan of this video) took it upon himself to transcribe the entire video at his cost! This generous fan sent it to me to share as I saw fit. Please note that this is an “automated transcript” that has had virtually no editing. So, here it is, typos and all:

Transcript of Mohnish Pabrai Lecture at Peking University (Guanghua School of Mgmt) -

Excellent talk. You do a great job of simplifying investment theses. Does President elect Donald Trump change your expectations regarding Fiat? I don't think he'all ruin the world...but might slow things down.

Thanks for the nice note Ryan. I rarely discuss portfolio holdings, so will take a pass on that.

However, in the last 22 years (since I started practicing value investing), whoever has been President (or been elected President) has led to zero changes/actions/trades in my portfolio.Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, whatever. It don't matter.

Rarely have I ever considered anything going on in DC as being relevant to my portfolio.

Thanks for sharing Sir. You make it sound so simple.
The biggest lesson is we miss these long term compounders when we try to be smart by selling them when they look expensive or when we have already made good money. Better to stick with them for long term.

Look forward to learn more from you.

Great talk Mohnish. I wonder about Charlie's bust. Was this tailor made or is there a way how I could get a copy?

It was custom made by India's best bust maker. We auctioned off 2 of these a few years ago on EBay and proceeds went to The Dakshana Foundation.

A total of 18 busts were made and, to the best of my knowledge, none of the owners are sellers.

One is at Berkshire HQ. Warren loves it.

Thanks for your response Mohnish. The auction is still trackable:

One more question, do you ever plan on publishing an update to "Mosaic: Perspectives on Investing"? The book is 12 years old so I was wonderring.

Hi Mohnish,

Thank you for the great lecture. One small question I wanted to ask on the answer you gave on how is your day structured. It's really brilliant that there's no fixed timing about anything. But is there a structure around what you read? Do you start with newspapers / annual reports, do you have fixed amounts of time dedicated to everything? Or even that is anything goes?

I specifically ask this question because I keep finding it very difficult because I feel there are too many reading distractions. For example, a new interesting article that just came up or a piece of news. How does one bring some semblance and structure to the reading work of a lazy investor?
